So a single 400W panel is roughly $720–$1,000 before shipping. To be fair, that's not the cheapest 400W panel out there. Nor should it be. The price difference is tied to the 25-year warranty and the degradation rate. SunPower's warranty backs 92% power retention after 25 years. If a conventional panel degrades at 0.5% per year instead of 0.25% per year, the lifetime energy difference is over 10%. (Which, honestly, is the number that matters more than the sticker price.)

When I compare quotes, I look at three things: module price, degradation rate, and warranty terms. If you're buying online, confirm the seller is authorized and the warranty registration is processed—otherwise, a cheap pallet can become an orphaned product.

2. What should I inspect during SunPower solar panels installation?

Three things, in order: roof penetrations, DC connectors, and junction box accessibility. A junction box is the plastic enclosure on the back of the panel that holds bypass diodes and the DC output terminals. Most buyers never look at it. That's a mistake. I used to think all junction boxes were essentially the same. They're not. A pigeon guard is just a physical barrier: metal mesh or combs around the panel perimeter. My quality advice is to use stainless steel mesh, not plastic. 5. Can I build a 3000W solar generator with SunPower panels?

You can—but it's not a weekend project. A 3000W generator usually means eight 400W panels in series, a 300V MPPT charge controller, a battery bank, and an inverter. I've audited DIY builds where the first issue was wire sizing. Undersized wire at 30A DC causes voltage drop, and at 300VDC it can cause arc faults. (Ugh, that's the first thing we see wrong.) If you're serious, buy a UL-listed combiner box, use properly rated PV breakers, and run a string sizing calculator.

And think about the panel itself: a SunPower 400W residential module is excellent, but for a trailer-mounted ground array or a stationary shed, you might be better off with cheaper commercial bifacial panels. Paying Maxeon efficiency when you have plenty of space is like buying a sports car for a highway commute.
