Procurement sounds boring right up until you lose real money on it.

A panel that starts strong but loses output faster will cost you more over 25 years than a slightly more expensive panel that degrades slowly. On a large array, that difference is usually bigger than the price difference you're chasing.
Let's do the math. Two panels: one degrades at 0.25% per year, one at 0.55% per year. At year 25, the slower-degrading panel retains about seven percentage points more of its original output. If you're modeling 25 years of electricity production, that gap dwarfs a $0.05 per-watt price difference.
That's why I tell buyers to look past the '22% efficiency' sticker. Don't assume the BMS handles it. A BMS is a protection device: over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, temperature cutoff. Some BMS units include passive balancing, but the balancing current is often tiny. A battery balancer is different. It actively moves charge between cells.
LiFePO4 cells have a flat voltage curve. When cells drift out of balance, usable capacity drops without warning. On a 48V bank, 16 cells out of balance can mean the bank shows 'fully charged' while delivering far below nameplate. Search for 'battery balancer LiFePO4' and you'll find active balancers rated by balancing current. That spec is the one that matters.
In 2022, I approved an order where the quote said 'balancing built into BMS.' Sounded fine at the time. It wasn't. Passive balancing couldn't keep the cells aligned under load, and within a year the bank charged to only about 75% of nameplate. An external active battery balancer fixed most of it. The unit wasn't expensive. The re-installation labor and the client's lost trust were.
Checklist: Write the balancer model and balancing current onto the BOM. BMS equals protection. Balancer equals equalization. They are not interchangeable.
4. Match the inverter class to the job
An inverter isn't just an inverter. The confusion usually starts when someone sees a portable device called a power inverter and assumes it can run a solar system. But it's designed for temporary AC power, not for managing a solar array or charging a battery bank. The wattage rating isn't the issue. The function class is.

People search 'how to install EV charger in condo' and find videos of chargers being mounted next to a panel. A house has a dedicated panel and an easy route. A condo has shared distribution, long conduit runs, fire-rated walls, and strata or building approvals.
In Q1 2024, I quoted a condo installation at $950 based on the charger location. The actual route from the electrical room to the parking bay was 38 meters through a fire-rated ceiling. The shared panel was nearly at capacity, so we added a load management system. The final invoice was just over $2,300. My fault. I quoted from a floor plan instead of a physical walk.

6. Verify the local support channel before importing anything
Warranty replacement sounds straightforward until you try to ship a heavy component back to another country. Shipping a failed battery or inverter can cost more than the component is worth, especially when you add customs and downtime.
