It was 6:47 on a Tuesday morning. I remember that detail because my phone isn't supposed to ring at 6:47 on a Tuesday.
On the other end was Dave, the site manager at Maple Ridge RV Resort. Their solar power system was dead. Not “running at 60%” dead—fully dead. - A warranty is only as good as the company behind it. The “Neptune” system came with a 25-year warranty and a defunct phone number. Check who you'll actually call in year nine.
- For RV batteries, a solar battery tender is preventive medicine. It's cheap, it's simple, and it stops a $200 battery replacement from becoming an annual event.
- Know the edge of your expertise. The solar fix was in my lane. The wind question wasn't, and saying so is more useful to a client than pretending.
One last thing. The panel pricing and that $450 overnight shipping fee—all accurate as of March 2024. The solar market moves fast, so verify current numbers before you build a budget.
